Coon Valley Business Association, April1st meeting, was held at the Coon Valley Telephone Co.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Carol Olson.
The minutes of the March meeting were read. A motion to accept was made by Linda Schulte and seconded by Pauline Aspenson. The motion carried.
Beth Hanson gave the treasurer’s report. The general checking is $2023.97 and savings is $823.54. Bingo checking is $4717.98. Trout Fest checking is $11,952.13. $345.78 was paid in Sales tax. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Pauline Aspenson and seconded by Nancy Wedwick. The motion carried.
We discussed various ways we could advertise Trout Fest. Carol Olson is checking with Driftless River Band to see if they can perform again this year. We have the Couleegans for our evening band. Jill Gettelman reported that we have 9 vendors so far. Carol Olson is calling Castle Realty to see if they will bring the bounce house again. The youth foundation will be doing kids games again. We will check into getting donated fishing poles and tackle boxes for the kids.
We have bingo this Friday night, and need donated bars or desserts. We are getting Westby’s old bingo board free of charge.
The Business Association will get the beer license and use our insurance for the canoe races. We will also help out where needed.
The Business Association is selling wine at the Vintage Market on Friday May 3rd. Profits go to the Association.
We are getting the Chaseburg Snowtrailers float to remake into a float for Trout Fest and Canoe Races. We will hopefully be in the Syttende Mai, Memorial Day and October Fest parades.
Karen Bernau reported that the Driftless Writing Center will be collecting stories about the flood. You can share your experience as someone directly impacted, a volunteer or a business owner. They will help you write your story. They will be at the Knutson Memorial Library on April 11th 6pm-8pm and April 13th 10am-12pm. You can also go to www.WisconsinFloodStories.org and share your story.
Beth Hanson proposed turning the bingo checking over to Carol Olson. She is taking on the treasurer’s duties for the Canoe Race group. She will still take of the general fund. Linda Schulte made a motion to accept and it was seconded Pauline Aspenson, the motion carried.
Linda Schulte is the chairman of the beautification committee for Canoe Races. She will be checking into flowers for the business area of town and cleaning up the area around the Coon Valley signs on either end of town. She is asking that the business association help with this, either with a monetary contribution, help with clean-up of sign area and cleaning up the area around our own businesses.
The next meeting is May 6th at 5:15 at the Skybox.
